Our Story
The company RIMO, initially known as "RIMO Mantelmode" (="RIMO Coat Wear"), was founded in the 1990s by Monika and Jürgen Ritter. Originally conceived as an acronym from RItter MOnika, the four letters later came to stand for Ritter Innovation Modern Outfit.
The original aim of the enterprise was to offer custom-made raincoats, rain capes, and general rainwear, particularly for taller individuals. After the first coat models were made from robust rain nylon, which proved themselves on the Danish, Dutch, and German North Sea coasts, vinyl materials and later latex quickly became the preferred production materials.
Towards the end of the 1990s, various attempts were made to establish the RIMO name in retail. Stores were opened in Solingen and Wuppertal, among other locations. Around the turn of the millennium, another attempt was made to present the now well-known and popular RIMO fashion to walk-in customers at the "Alten Hafen" between Königsallee and the Rhine promenade in Düsseldorf. Ultimately, however, it became clear that our extravagant and extraordinary models were best marketed online, reaching a much broader audience there.
Our first website went live in the late 1990s, during the early days of the World Wide Web. This was followed by numerous revisions and relaunches, and eventually the establishment of our own web shop, which is now available in its third or fourth version.
On January 1, 2018, Monika and Jürgen Ritter retired and handed over the running of the business to Tobias Ritter. The company headquarters and production were moved from Solingen to Wuppertal, and RIMO Mantelmode was renamed to the more general and international RIMO Fashion.
